It ain’t Over ’til the Beauty Queen Plays the Flute

I’m in the middle of writing another post about the economic crisis and a few other things, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t share this with you as quickly as possible – Sarah “Baracuda” Palin, formerly known as Sarah Heath, rockin the house on flute in a beauty pageant. One of these days the press will actually get to question her and we won’t have to form our opinions of her based on 20 year old, low-grade home movies. Palin been hard to reach.
She’s been locked away in well-lit rooms cramming for her “finals”, kinda like Luke Skywalker when he was training in the swamps with Yoda. But she and the GOP faithful are soon to find out that you can’t become a Jedi or the potential leader of a nuclear superpower currently engaged in two wars, on the verge of the worst economic crisis in a century, targeted by global Salafi jihadists, in debt up to its eyebrows, and disliked (if not despised) now more than ever around the world in just six weeks of study – even if your tutors are the best bullshitters in the world (no reference here to Yoda, he was cool).
She doesn’t have a grasp of much outside of Alaskan affairs. This became painfully obvious in her now famous “Russia answer” during her interview with Couric. The McCain camp should have never put her in this embarrassing position and if they had vetted her in the least bit they would have known within 10 minutes of any substantive conversation that she would surely make a fool of herself trying to rub elbows with the world’s top geopolitical players. The GOP should treat their people better.
Question: Am I nuts to think there’s a good 25% chance that she’ll be replaced on the ticket?

This whole thing is like a surreal movie. Its definitely Hollywood or sitcom material. I believe tomorrow episode is going to be hilarious or to painful to watch.(I am beginning to feel sorry for her.) Either way I surely wont miss it!

I think its very possible they could dump her after or even before tonight’s debate. I am sure the reason would be because its her decision and not that McCain made a bad decision in choosing this VP.
Getting rid of their Liability(Palin) and replacing her with someone who can answer questions about politics does a couple things. One, it strengthens the quality of the ticket. And with what 34 days(something like that) to go everyone will have forgotten about Palin for the most part. 2nd it will just keep McCains name being talked about so much in the press it will keep him in with an arms reach of Obama in the polls. And at the end of the day, if your with that arms reach of your opponent on election day. Anything is possible.
If she does drop out of the running. The Obama camp wont even be able to challenge John on her. It will be seen as attacking a woman and sexism. Its actually a beautiful move at this point I think for the McCain camp. Actually, its their only move in my opinion. I do believe the main reason McCain is slipping in the polls is because of that gigantic anchor he has attached to himself named PALIN.
Right now people are wondering why the Obama camp isn’t swinging at McCain at all for the most part. Its because he doesn’t have to. The media is doing it for Obama because of Palin. Which is making McCain swing back at Obama so much and so often.
Though I think Obama could win this bout one on one against McCain. If McCain takes Palin the distance through this campaign. Palin could end being the biggest killer of the GOP since Ross Perot killed George Bush Senior that helped Clinton win.
Hey, just opinions.

I think kicking Palin off the ticket would be suicide for McCain. His judgment can already be perceived as questionable given his grandstanding last week around the bank bailout. How much worse will it look if they admit Palin was not the greatest choice of running mate? The GOP crowd has shown they prefer a man who sticks to his guns, like Bush, even against the informed advice of the proverbial ‘reality-based’ crowd.

Palin did well all things considered. I would love to see any one of you get in front of an audience with cameras broadcasting to every household in the US and do what any of these hopefuls are doing. It’s not easy. She and Biden deserve credit for putting their best forward.
Now, it’s obvious that she’s definitely not an entrenched bureaucrat and doesn’t have the same background knowledge as Biden. Some may see this as a weakness but it may actually be a plus.

Keith, you make a good point about the level of difficulty of debating at that level. And I think that kinda helps make my point – she was thrown into this without any real consideration. McCain himself had only met her once and they were desperate to try and pick up some of the disenfranchised women who supported Hillary (another huge, insulting mistake as if women would vote for her just because she was a woman).
As for a lack of background knowledge potentially seen as a plus by some – that scares the hell out of me. McCain was making headway with his message that experience mattered. Then he picked someone not just with little experience (like Obama), but someone who lacks the foundational knowledge necessary for such an important position.
Summary – I would never debate Obama, McCain, Biden, Hillary, etc etc. But Sarah Palin’s grasp of world affairs doesn’t intimidate most of us. And we deserve better.
2 wars, economic disaster, global jihadists, a rising China and anxious Russia. Not exactly like the mock “Town Meeting” we did in 8th grade.
Cheers,
